Candidate for Annapolis Carman Kerr
Carman enjoyed a successful career as an executive and entrepreneur in the tourism sector across Canada prior to becoming the MLA for Annapolis in 2021.
He has served as party whip, Natural Resources critic, Agriculture critic, member of the Community Services committee, and the newest member of the Health committee.
Carman is focused on rural issues such as agriculture and support for volunteer fire departments and is committed to ensuring that government applies a rural lens to broader issues like healthcare and housing.
From working with communities to attract and retain healthcare professionals to pushing for innovative pilot programs to asking tough questions to the Minister of Health, Carman has worked tirelessly to improve healthcare in the Annapolis Valley.
On the housing file, he founded a non-profit organization with the objective of increasing the number of affordable housing units in Annapolis County and continues to connect constituents to available rental units and housing-related supports.
As agriculture critic, Carman has heard local producers feel undervalued and unappreciated by the current provincial government. He has advocated for fairer and more transparent support programs for farmers, a plan to grow the agriculture sector in our province, and improvements to wine sector supports.
Carman has tabled bills that would support volunteer firefighters, like doubling the volunteer firefighter tax credit and covering costs for important medical training along with bringing their concerns to government.
As a life-long volunteer, Carman remains active with Nova Scotia Health and Valley United Soccer.
He is grateful to be raising his two young sons in the beautiful Annapolis Valley.
