Ali Duale to Re-Offer in Halifax Armdale

Ali Duale will re-offer as the Liberal candidate for Halifax Armdale in the next provincial election.

In 2021, Ali became the first Muslim MLA to be elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature. In 1991, Ali and his wife fled their home in Somalia due to the civil war and spent seven years in a Kenyan refugee camp before coming to Canada to build a better life for their family. After settling in Halifax, Ali spent nearly 20 years with the Halifax Regional Fire Department and worked as a Diversity and Community Liaison Officer.

“Serving as the MLA for Halifax Armdale has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” said Duale. “Our riding has accomplished so much in three years, but there is more work to do to ensure that seniors and families have the support they need to thrive and grow in our community. I know that together, we can accomplish great things for the people of Halifax Armdale.”

Ali has been a champion for equity and diversity and was a driving force behind the province’s Dismantling Racism and Hate Act. He has used his voice in the legislature to ensure government continues to support marginalized communities across the province.

“Since joining our caucus nearly three years ago, Ali has been an inspiration to our entire team,” said Liberal Leader Zach Churchill. “Ali is a respected member of his community and a thoughtful legislator. We are so fortunate to have his voice at the table.”
