Tim Houston is all promise, no progress

This month, Tim Houston will celebrate three years since he was sworn in as Premier.

He made BIG promises to get elected. So, to mark this anniversary, we took a look at the progress he’s made… and one thing stands out: Tim Houston is all promise, no progress.

As he gets ready to celebrate three years since he was sworn in as Premier, we made a video to mark the occasion, take a look:

All Promise. No Progress.

Tim Houston has shown us that he’s more interested in helping his friends than fighting for you. And we think all Nova Scotians should be taking a hard look at his record.

So, before he tries to walk back the promises he made, help us spread the word. Please share this video with your friends and family.

And if you can, please consider making a donation so we can make sure everyone sees this video. Whatever the amount, your contribution will help ensure Nova Scotians across the province know the facts.

Public Accounts Update Further Proof Houston Government Should Cut HST

Today’s update on the province’s public accounts is proof that the Houston government can – and should – cut the HST.

This government continues to rake in record highs in personal income tax and HST, and won’t use that money to offer tax relief to working families who are struggling with the rising cost of living.

“Our team hears from Nova Scotians every day, in every corner of the province, how tough it has become to afford the basic necessities,” said Opp Leader Zach Churchill. “The government is being irresponsible with the public purse – a Liberal government would be making investments in health and housing instead of PR campaigns, and making tax cuts to leave more money in people’s pockets.”

The government also shows no sign of stopping their practice of spending billions in additional appropriations every year that are not disclosed to the taxpayer, and not brought before the House of Assembly, which the Auditor General has repeatedly described as lacking any accountability or transparency.

Ali Duale to Re-Offer in Halifax Armdale

Ali Duale will re-offer as the Liberal candidate for Halifax Armdale in the next provincial election.

In 2021, Ali became the first Muslim MLA to be elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature. In 1991, Ali and his wife fled their home in Somalia due to the civil war and spent seven years in a Kenyan refugee camp before coming to Canada to build a better life for their family. After settling in Halifax, Ali spent nearly 20 years with the Halifax Regional Fire Department and worked as a Diversity and Community Liaison Officer.

“Serving as the MLA for Halifax Armdale has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” said Duale. “Our riding has accomplished so much in three years, but there is more work to do to ensure that seniors and families have the support they need to thrive and grow in our community. I know that together, we can accomplish great things for the people of Halifax Armdale.”

Ali has been a champion for equity and diversity and was a driving force behind the province’s Dismantling Racism and Hate Act. He has used his voice in the legislature to ensure government continues to support marginalized communities across the province.

“Since joining our caucus nearly three years ago, Ali has been an inspiration to our entire team,” said Liberal Leader Zach Churchill. “Ali is a respected member of his community and a thoughtful legislator. We are so fortunate to have his voice at the table.”

I want to be that voice for people” said Crouse. “I’m deeply concerned about the healthcare and affordability crises the people of Lunenburg West are facing. I know there are no simple fixes, but I strongly believe that there is a better way. I’m proud to join Team Churchill because I know they are the team that can deliver results for Nova Scotians.”

Sheila Sears Nominated as Liberal Candidate in Antigonish

Sheila Sears has been nominated as the Liberal candidate for Antigonish in the next provincial election.

For more than 30 years, Sheila used her skills as a nurse to promote public health in marginalized and rural communities. From 2003 to 2017, she worked for the Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority and the Eastern Zone in various roles including Manager of Public Health Care and later as Director of Public Health. Sheila was also a dedicated board member of Nova Scotia Health until it was dissolved by the Houston government in 2021.

“I’m thrilled to put my name forward as the Liberal candidate for Antigonish,” said Sears. “As a healthcare professional, I have dedicated my life to helping people. Houston Government Spends Half Million on Nova Scotia Loyal Ad Campaign

In the 2021 campaign, the Houston government touted the Nova Scotia Loyal program as a key economic plank of their platform, but nearly three years later, the program has amounted to nothing more than an overpriced advertising campaign.

A freedom of information request obtained by the Nova Scotia Liberal Caucus revealed the Houston government has spent $543,000 in advertising on the Nova Scotia Loyal program since 2021.

“The Houston government sold this as a program that would benefit Nova Scotians, but so far it has only cost them money,” said Opposition Leader Zach Churchill. “In today’s affordability crisis, Nova Scotians need more than an advertising campaign, they need real action. Half a million dollars could be better spent helping our local producers or Nova Scotians struggling to make ends meet.”

The Nourishing Communities Food Coupon program is an existing initiative that helps low- income Nova Scotians access locally grown food. Increasing funding for this program would allow more Nova Scotians to access fresh, local food at a time when food insecurity continues to climb.

“Nova Scotia Loyal has become nothing more than an expensive advertising campaign for the PC government,” said Economic Development critic Fred Tilley. “Food insecurity is one of our province’s most pressing challenges. We don’t need to re-invent the wheel to address it. Instead of funneling more taxpayer dollars into advertising, the government should bolster existing programs designed to help Nova Scotians put food on the table.”

Joey Amero Nominated as Liberal Candidate in Digby-Annapolis

Joey Amero has been nominated as the Liberal candidate in Digby-Annapolis for the next provincial election.

As a lifelong resident of Digby, Joey is a passionate advocate for the region and all it has to offer. Before becoming a financial advisor eight years ago, he worked in the education industry as a teacher assistant and tutor. Both careers have allowed him to help students, seniors, and families navigate the challenges many Nova Scotians are facing with the cost of living crisis.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of Team Churchill in the next provincial election,” said Amero. “The Houston government has overlooked rural communities and the people who live in them. Here in Digby-Annapolis, residents don’t have an emergency department they can rely on and are struggling to afford the basics. As an MLA, I will ensure our community is a place for young families to thrive and seniors to grow old with dignity.”

Joey is a dedicated volunteer and has given his time as a coach for a variety of sports in the community. As an educator and coach, Joey has made a positive impact in the lives of many young people in Digby-Annapolis.

“Joey cares deeply about the people in his community and will be an excellent representative for the riding,” said Liberal Leader Zach Churchill. “The people of Digby- Annapolis deserve a strong MLA that is willing to roll up their sleeves to deliver results for their community. I know that they can count on Joey to do just that.”
