Liberals to Introduce Bill Addressing Housing Oversight

In order to get a move on the Nova Scotia Affordable Housing Commission’s top priority, Municipal Affairs and Housing critic Lorelei Nicoll will be introducing the Nova Scotia Housing Corporation Act today.

This bill would create an independent housing entity operating at arm’s length from the government – a critical recommendation in the housing commission’s report that’s been delayed by the Houston government.

The commission has made it very clear in their call to action: the establishment of this housing entity is “critical to meeting the challenges” outlined in the report. Without it, other action items will fall victim to delays and inefficiencies.

“Premier Houston has put the cart before the horse by not yet acting on this recommendation,” says Nicoll. “The establishment of this housing corporation is essential to making affordable housing a reality in our province and we can’t have another day go by without a bill tabled to address this.”
