Cathy De RomeCandidate for Queens

Our democracy is only as strong as the people who participate in it. Having viable options for people to choose their representative in government is the reason Cathy put her name forward as the NS Liberal candidate for Queens.

Born and bred in Nova Scotia, the beautiful coastal area of Queens became her home when she accepted a job offer here. She is the mother of two grown children, both of whom are very fortunate to have found good jobs in Nova Scotia. She taught elementary school for over 30 years and has seen many children grow up and become adults during those years.

From 2008-2009, she taught at the elementary level at an IB school in Ras Al Khamiah, UAE, where she and her husband had a rich experience creating lifetime memories. It taught her that children, no matter what culture they are from, are very similar in many ways. Upon her return, she began substitute teaching and continues to do so in the school from which she retired. Education has always been and continues to be very important to her.

Volunteering is a key part of Cathy’s life. She has served on the Board of the local Long Term Care Home and has held many positions in her local community church until its closure. Currently, she volunteers with the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle, and serves guests at a free Community Café sponsored by local churches to help those in need of a nutritious meal and social interaction. She has been involved with the Queens Liberal EDA over many years, currently serving as President.

Her hope is to engage more people to be active in politics, so they can learn more about and participate in issues that are important to them.
