Iain has been a strong supporter of the new Community Outpatient Centre under construction in Bayer’s Lake.
The facility will offer several services that do not require a hospital setting. Those potential services may include an initial visit with a specialist, post-surgery or post-treatment follow-up, blood collection and X-rays.
The total cost of the contract is $259.4 million for the design, construction and financing, and 30 years of maintenance. Construction is expected to be completed in August 2023.
As the Beechville, Lakeside, Timberlea area continues to grow at record pace, Iain is especially proud to see the planning of the new BLT Recreation Centre continue to move forward. This important infrastructure will offer opportunities to promote active lifestyles, celebrate cultural diversity, and foster a close community.
Securing a new state-of-the-art facility has always been a personal long-term goal for Iain and he looks forward to the community’s input on what amenities they would like to see in this new facility.
Growing up in Nova Scotia, Iain has always had a deep love and respect for the ocean that surrounds Nova Scotia and the miles of unspoiled coastline. Iain considers himself fortunate to have so many beautiful coastal communities nestled along the shoreline within his riding. He and his wife Mary enjoy soaking in the natural beauty by venturing out for a day of kayaking or hiking the trails that touch and meet the Atlantic ocean.
Our coastal communities are filled with eco-tourism businesses, and Iain was pleased to initiate the Active Transportation Lanes along the Prospect Road that stretch from Goodwood to Terence Bay Road to help support these businesses by providing a responsible mode of travel to these areas while conserving the environment and improving the well-being of the local people.
Iain feels it is important to ensure youth are at the table and their voices are heard. He will always engage and listen to Nova Scotia’s youth on issues that are important to their generation such as climate change, the economy, social justice.
In the fall of 2019, The Nova Scotia Nature Trust added an additional 600 acres to Blue Mountain Birch Cove which overlaps into the Timberlea-Prospect riding. Iain has been happy to continue working with the Friends of Blue Mountain and Birch Cove and good friend Diana Whalen to ensure the vision of this urban wilderness continues for future generations of Nova Scotians to enjoy.
