Candidate for Inverness Jaime Beaton
Jaime was born and raised in Mabou, Nova Scotia and has family connections across Inverness County. As a child, Jaime would spend her summers in Pleasant Bay and Meat Cove, and always looked forward to a trip over Route 19 to the Cabot Trail. In the 1990’s she played minor hockey, coached by some of the pioneers of female hockey in Inverness County.
In 1999, Jaime graduated from Mabou Consolidated School and went on to work at the Red Shoe Pub. After high school, she moved to Ottawa and began working at a homeless shelter preparing meals for the kitchen. She also had the opportunity to do volunteer work all across the country. This community building experience shaped her path to an academic sphere and to a long career in social services.
Jaime worked for the City of Ottawa from 2005 to 2019, when she moved home to Mabou. She is a graduate of both Algonquin College and Carleton University, studying Media and Communications, and Political Science.
Jaime has also worked in the Film & Television industry, and has a deep commitment to the arts. She believes that the arts allow communities to tell their perspectives on life and society through a creative lens. Inverness County is a hub for the arts, and has the potential to further develop that industry.
Jaime has worked in various roles in government in the last 19 years in both Ontario and Nova Scotia. She has a demonstrated ability to sit at the table and discuss big issues that affect the lives of people. Returning to Inverness County was always part of her life plan, and she is thrilled to have the opportunity to represent her community.
