For anyone that knows John John McCarthy, describing him is easy. He’s an authentic, community minded individual, a teacher, an exceptional athlete and a trainer who sees the potential in everyone.
His boxing career took him around the world and his carded athlete status earned him a scholarship to help pay his way through university where he received a Bachelor of Arts (CBU) and a Bachelor of Education (UNB). Since his youth, he’s led and coached many teams and individuals to countless wins and championships.
John John is a well liked teacher at Glace Bay High. Most of his teaching career has been focused on helping at-risk youth unlock their true potential. For the past 9 years, he’s owned a small business offering personal training (John John’s Knockout Fitness) where he inspires and motivates clients through a combination of skill and humour.
John John has volunteered with multiple organizations and is consistently supportive of local initiatives.
John John is married to his wife Candee for 21 years and they have two teenage boys, Matthew and Keigan.

As a teacher, gym owner, and father, John John recognizes the value of youth in the community.
An often under-represented demographic in politics, he aims to advocate for a safe, prosperous community that will allow the kids he works with daily to thrive and grow. John John wants to make Glace Bay-Dominion a welcoming environment that is bursting with activities for young people.
As a volunteer in initiatives like the Because You Care Cup, a Dominion youth group and restorative justice, he understands that the future will be shaped by the youth of today. He wants to give them the tools necessary to succeed, regardless of what barriers they may face.
John John is a strong advocate for healthcare and mental health supports in Glace Bay-Dominion and Cape Breton. As a former boxer and long-time proponent of physical fitness, he understands the numerous benefits of healthy living. Because of these factors, John John will fight and work tirelessly for access to quality services in the region.
He understands that not only is reliable healthcare a necessity for improving the quality of life in his riding, but that doing so will allow the economy to thrive.
