Liberal Candidate for Eastern Shore
Kevin was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as MLA for Eastern Shore in 2013 and was re-elected in 2017. Shortly after being elected in 2013, he was also elected as the Speaker of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Kevin is the first Speaker of the House to hail from the riding of the Eastern Shore.
Kevin has given much back to communities within the Eastern Shore and continues to be a fearless activist for the residences. Over the past three decades, he has operated several successful small businesses. He has also worked for five-years for the Canadian Paraplegic Association in Nova Scotia as a Peer Counsellor and seven-years for the Rick Hansen Foundation as a National Solutions Coordinator.

Access to affordable and accessible housing stock is an ongoing area where Kevin has successfully brought in more than $4,000,000 over the past 8 years as MLA to address needs on the Eastern Shore. Kevin has supported the development of new public housing in Porters Lake and Oyster Pond, supported hundreds of individuals with home repair grants, and championed significant investment in upgrading and modernizing existing public housing buildings along the Eastern Shore. There is more to do, and Kevin is advocating for the conversion of the two soon to be decommissioned schools (ESDH and GBJH) into housing
Kevin has been advocating for new community infrastructure since 2013 to meet the needs of Eastern Shore families in the areas of education, housing, healthcare and recreation. Kevin was able to get the Nova Scotia government to agree to replace both Eastern Shore District High School and Gaetz Brook Jr High School with a new consolidated Jr/Sr high school which will be built on 90 acres of undeveloped crown land at East Chezzetcook. Having this new school in place will ensure that all Eastern students and families reach their potential and it will inspire our communities to grow and prosper for decades to come. Kevin will continue to advocate for a new CSAP P-12 school as well as for an NSCC presence on the consolidated educational campus.
