Candidate for Pictou Centre Kris MacFarlane
Kris grew up in Westville and later moved to rural Pictou County to raise his family alongside his wife, Sara. Now living in New Glasgow, they are proud of their two grown sons, Evan and Brady.
With a career spanning over three decades, Kris has dedicated his life to music. He has supported artists such as Alan Doyle, Great Big Sea, Spirit of the West, and Jimmy Rankin on both recordings and tours. No matter where his work has taken him, Kris has always called Pictou County home.
Kris is passionate about nurturing the next generation of musicians. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with young people and helping them find their way in the industry. Currently, he is teaching a summer music program at the Pictou Landing First Nation School.
Since 2018, Kris has been a member of the board at Local 571 of The American Federation of Musicians (NS & PEI). Now serving as Vice President, Kris has been able to work with an amazing team to assist members in creating a better working environment for musicians.
Inspired by his late mother, Kris has traditionally kept his acts of service quiet and personal, such as organizing winter coat drives for local shelters and helping friends and neighbours with home repairs. The province’s housing crisis and a rise in poverty and mental health issues has drawn Kris to help people on a larger scale by putting his name on the ballot for Pictou Centre.
Having navigated the healthcare system with his parents in recent years, he has witnessed the challenges faced by patients and their families. On Team Churchill, Kris aims to be a voice for those in need and promises to work towards tangible improvements for his community.
Kris brings a fresh perspective to politics and will not settle for the status quo. His life experiences have prepared him for this next step to be a strong representative for his home in Pictou County.
