Laura MulrooneyCandidate for Chester-St. Margaret’s
Laura has called Chester-St. Margaret’s home for more than 30 years. Her experiences in the community, as a mother, business owner, and avid community volunteer, have motivated her to put her name forward to be the next MLA for Chester-St. Margaret’s.
For more than three decades, Laura owned and operated Julien’s Bakery with her partner, Didier, where she has had the opportunity to meet and form lasting relationships with members of the community. After selling the business, Laura attempted to retire, but for the past two years she has served as Village Commissioner in the Village of Chester.
Laura has given back to her community through various volunteer roles. She currently serves as co-chair of the Starfish Refugee Group, vice chair for Our Health Centre (OHC), and treasurer and advisor for both the Chester and Lunenburg farmers’ markets.
Like many, Laura has experienced her children moving to another province to find a better opportunity, and that motivates her to make Nova Scotia a place where our next generation wants to stay, build a career and raise a family.
Laura has spent a lot of time speaking with families at our local farmers’ markets and has a deep understanding of the cost-of-living challenges people are trying to navigate. In her many conversations with neighbours and community members, Laura hears a lot about a lack of affordable housing, terrible cell coverage, increasing ambulance response times and a growing need to be attached to a primary care provider.
Making connections is really what it’s all about for Laura – bringing people together to make things better for others. This is what she’s hoping to do in the Legislature as our representative from Chester-St. Margaret’s.
