NS Liberals Commit to Overhauling Healthcare Infrastructure

Nova Scotia Liberal Leader Zach Churchill announced his party’s approach to healthcare infrastructure, fixing gaps left by the Conservatives and launching new initiatives to ensure every resident has access to the care they need close to home.

Despite promising to fix healthcare, Tim Houston has failed to get a single major healthcare project off the ground. The largest healthcare initiative in a generation – the QEII redevelopment – has been plagued by delays, rising costs, and reduced scope under the Conservatives.

“Throughout the campaign, I’ve heard heartbreaking stories from patients and staff about how our healthcare system is failing them,” said Churchill. “The QEII redevelopment was supposed to be a cornerstone of fixing healthcare in our province, but under Tim Houston, it’s become a mess – half the size and twice the cost. Our government will uncover what went wrong, bring transparency to the process, and ensure this vital project gets back on track.”

The Liberals’ plan also includes much-needed investment in the Annapolis Valley, which has been neglected under the Houston government. A Churchill government would invest to re-open emergency rooms, build collaborative care clinics, and begin work on a new hospital to serve the Annapolis Valley.

“Families in the Annapolis Valley shouldn’t have to wait hours for an ambulance or drive across the province for care,” said Churchill, “The Annapolis Valley is one region of the province that hasn’t seen a major healthcare redevelopment in years, and it’s time that changed.”

A Nova Scotia Liberal government would also build and expand 40 collaborative care clinics across the province, initially focusing on areas of the province that have the highest unattachment rates to primary care.
