The health and wellness of Nova Scotians was challenged in many ways throughout the pandemic, including reduced access to recreation and fitness facilities that many rely on to maintain both their physical and mental wellbeing. Exercise has many significant long term health benefits, including prevention and risk reduction for numerous chronic diseases and adverse health outcomes.
A Liberal Government will invest in the health of Nova Scotians by establishing a new $3 million grants-based program that will fund special programs proposed by organizations with the demonstrated ability to offer services that will make a measurable impact on the health and fitness levels of Nova Scotians.
Eligible groups will include gyms, yoga & spin studios and community recreation centers with proposals for projects that will incrementally increase physical activity levels and lead to overall improvements in health indicators. This program will emphasize increased access to high quality exercise for individuals experiencing socioeconomic or other barriers to fitness programs.
