Rafah DiCostanzo acclaimed as Liberal candidate for Clayton Park West

(Halifax, NS) – Rafah DiCostanzo has been acclaimed as the Liberal candidate for Clayton Park West and will represent the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in the next provincial election. Due to COVID-19, the nomination meeting was conducted virtually.

Rafah was first elected as MLA for Clayton Park West in 2017. Currently, Rafah serves as the Liberal Caucus Chair and Caucus Whip. Rafah was born in Iraq and moved to Great Britain as a teenager. She immigrated to Canada in 1984 to continue her education and has lived in Clayton Park West for more than 30 years. Before politics, Rafah worked as a medical interpreter for immigrants and refugees for nearly 30 years.

“It has been an honour to serve such a diverse and vibrant community for the past four years,” says DiCostanzo. “I couldn’t be more proud to be the MLA for a riding I feel so connected to. I look forward to continuing to work alongside the wonderful constituents of Clayton Park West.”

Rafah’s career as a medical interpreter has led her to be a strong advocate for healthcare. She was a champion for the Bayer’s Lake Outpatient Centre that will help her constituents access healthcare services close to home. Rafah worked relentlessly to secure a much needed school in her community to address the growing population of Clayton Park West. She has developed strong relationships with the community and leads both the Clayton Park West Litter Prevention Committee and the Clayton Park West – Connecting Seniors Group.

“The people of Clayton Park West are fortunate to have Rafah’s strong leadership,” says Premier Iain Rankin. “I’m thrilled to have her on our team in the next campaign. Her constituents are well-served by her compassion and her dedication to the community.”
