Record Exports and Nova Scotian made products in demand around the world

Nova Scotians: your hard work is paying off.

Recent Statistics Canada numbers show Nova Scotians companies exported more than $5.7 billion last year. That’s a new all-time high, and an increase of $1.4 billion from 2013, as international demand for Nova Scotian made products continues to increase.

You may know that our seafood exports have skyrocketed in the past few years, and in 2014, the Ivany Report set the ambitious goal of doubling our seafood and agriculture exports by 2024. Thanks to those working hard in the industry across Nova Scotia, our exports of seafood and agricultural products has grown by more than $1.3 billion and met the Ivany Report target well ahead of 2024.

And while there has been growth in our traditional industries like fishing and farming, Nova Scotian commodities such as automotive parts and electronics have seen an increase last year, by $40.2 million and $13.8 million, respectively.

Our trading partners are also diversifying, as Nova Scotia’s exports to China are up by 32 per cent ($189.5 million), with increased exports to other international destinations such as Spain, Australia, Turkey, Iraq, Mexico, and The Netherlands. Our Government will continue to work hard with our business partners across the province to provide new and expanded opportunities for exporters to thrive and compete in the global market.

Our export growth is great news for Nova Scotia’s economy and has helped our workforce grow to over 382,000 full-time jobs in a diverse labour force that is looking to export our products and talent around the world.

As Nova Scotians, we can all take pride in the products that we share with the world.
