Sheila Sears has been nominated as the Liberal candidate for Antigonish in the next provincial election.
For more than 30 years, Sheila used her skills as a nurse to promote public health in marginalized and rural communities. From 2003 to 2017, she worked for the Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority and the Eastern Zone in various roles including Manager of Public Health Care and later as Director of Public Health. Sheila was also a dedicated board member of Nova Scotia Health until it was dissolved by the Houston government in 2021.
“I’m thrilled to put my name forward as the Liberal candidate for Antigonish,” said Sears. “As a healthcare professional, I have dedicated my life to helping people. Public service is a natural next step for me to address the issues I’m passionate about like improving rural healthcare, affordable housing, and addressing poverty.”
Sheila has been an active community volunteer for over two decades with organizations such as Kids First, the Antigonish Regional Development Authority, the local Chamber of Commerce, and Children’s Place Day Care. Most recently, she was a co-founder and treasurer for SAFE: Syria Antigonish Families Embrace.
“Sheila is a phenomenal community leader who will serve the residents of Antigonish well as their MLA,” said Liberal Leader Zach Churchill. “Nova Scotians have been let down by the Houston’s government promise to fix healthcare. I’m so pleased to have Sheila on our team because I know that with her help, we can make life better for the people of Antigonish and beyond.”
