Tamara Powell acclaimed as Liberal candidate for Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River

(Halifax, NS) – Tamara Powell has been acclaimed as the candidate for Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River and will represent the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in the next provincial election. Due to COVID-19, the nomination process was conducted virtually.

Tamara was born and raised in Truro, and has had a passion for politics and social justice from a young age. After graduating as Valedictorian from Cobequid Education Centre, she went on to complete a Bachelor Arts with a major in Sociology from Saint Mary’s University. Tamara began working in several provincial government departments, including environment, human resources, and the Supreme Court Family Division. In 2009, she began working with the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission where is currently employed as a human rights officer.

“I promise to listen, care and act. I am here for our community and everyone in it,” says Powell. “Let’s give Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River the strong voice it deserves as the Hub of Nova Scotia.”

Tamara resides in Truro with her husband, Lester, and their two sons and is a proud Autism Mom. She uses her life experiences to advocate for social justice issues. As part of her participation in a research study with the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto, she will be the keynote speaker at their race and disability conference in March 2022.

“I admire Tamara’s drive to create a fairer and more just society for all Nova Scotians,” says Premier Iain Rankin. “I look forward to having her voice in our new Liberal government.”
