Healthcare professionals are the backbone of our healthcare system. Hundreds of new family doctors and specialists have been recruited to practice in Nova Scotia, but there is still work to do. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

As part of our commitment to training more doctors here in Nova Scotia, the new North Nova Family Medicine Teaching Site opened today in Truro. Government is adding 25 new residency spaces across Nova Scotia, 10 of them in family medicine and 15 for specialists. Six of the new family medicine residencies are located at the new Truro site....

"We are working to add family doctors and specialists to the health-care system to better meet Nova Scotians' care needs," said Dr. Mark Taylor, interim vice president, medicine, NSHA. "When it comes to additional specialists, we're adding positions in the services and locations of highest need to provide maximum benefit for Nova Scotians." ...

"We want to make sure people living in our long-term care homes are getting the best care possible," said Mr. Delorey. "Recent concerns have left us looking at what we can be doing differently and these experts will help guide us."...

There have been concerns raised recently about health care in northern Nova Scotia, in particular, Cumberland County. I want to reassure all Nova Scotians that government, along with the Nova Scotia Health Authority, is working hard to improve access to care and recruit family doctors and specialists, not just in the short term, but for years to come. ...
