Update on the Springhill School

Your Liberal government is committed to building a new elementary school in Springhill.

To avoid delay in bringing the new school to life as soon as possible, government is changing the site selection process and will not work through the school board (now known as the Regional Centre for Education) to search for three potential locations for the school.  Instead, and to ensure no time is wasted, staff from the Department of Education and the Department of TIR have been looking at existing or former school locations followed by properties owned by the province, federal, or municipal governments.  A meeting has taken place in the community with a municipal entity and staff from both departments have begun investigation into a potential site beside the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre using geotechnical data and mapping of prior mine workings.

If another site is identified other than this one, the community will be provided the opportunity to provide comment on the potential locations.

Your Liberal government understands how much this new school means to the community and is eager to begin construction, and to open a new elementary school in Springhill in September of 2021.
