Nova Scotia Liberal Party Announces Timeline for Leadership Race

The Nova Scotia Liberal Party Board has officially selected a date for the next leadership convention, which will be held on November 21, 2026. This extended period will provide the party the opportunity to rebuild, reconnect with Nova Scotians, and give prospective candidates the time needed to run effective and engaging campaigns.

“We believe this timeline strikes the right balance,” said Party President Margaret Miller. “It ensures we have the time to rebuild our party from the grassroots up while giving potential leadership contenders the opportunity to present their vision to members. We were inspired by recent leadership races in New Brunswick where a longer timeline allowed the new leader time to engage meaningfully with members and ultimately lead the party to a strong majority government. This approach positions us for similar success here in Nova Scotia.”

Over the coming months, Interim Leader Derek Mombourquette and MLA Iain Rankin will be travelling across the province to hear directly from party members, gather feedback, and strengthen local EDAs in communities across Nova Scotia.

Further details regarding the leadership race will be determined at a future board meeting.
