House Leader
In 2013, Iain was elected as the Liberal MLA for the riding of Timberlea-Prospect, and was re-elected in 2017 and 2021. As MLA, Iain has been a strong and dedicated representative for his community. He has developed a strong reputation for being an engaged and accessible MLA.
In 2017, Premier Stephen McNeil appointed Iain to cabinet, where he served as Minister of Environment, as well as Minister of Lands and Forestry. Iain succeeded McNeil as Leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in early 2021, becoming the 29th Premier of Nova Scotia.
Iain resides in Timberlea with his wife Mary, and their daughter Freya and son Eoin.
On top of his role as Liberal House Leader, Iain serves as the critic for Finance and Treasury Board, Justice, Education and Early Childhood Development, Growth and Development, Environment and Climate Change, Natural Resources, Energy, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agriculture, Labour, Skills, and Immigration, Office of Mental Health and Addictions, Military Relations, Trade, African Nova Scotian Affairs, Gaelic Affairs, Acadian Affairs and Francophonie, Status of Women, and the Office of Equity and Anti-Racism.
