Nova Scotia Liberal Caucus Announce Critic Roles, Committee Appointments

Ahead of the legislative session set to begin in February, the Nova Scotia Liberals have announced their critic roles and committee appointments.

Derek Mombourquette, Interim Liberal Leader, will serve as critic for the Premier’s Office, Executive Council, L’Nu Affairs, Intergovernmental Relations, Health and Wellness, Seniors and Long-Term Care, Municipal Affairs, Opportunities and Social Development, Public Works, Advanced Education, Communications Nova Scotia, Service Nova Scotia, Emergency Management, Public Service Commission, Office of Service Efficiency, Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage, and Cyber Security and Digital Solutions.

“I’m honoured to serve as Interim Leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party and to continue the important work of advocating for the people of this province,” said Mombourquette. “This session, the Houston government will deliver its next budget, and we hope to see a plan that strengthens our economy and focuses on addressing the challenges facing Nova Scotians.”

Iain Rankin, Liberal House Leader, will serve as the critic for Finance and Treasury Board, Justice, Education and Early Childhood Development, Growth and Development, Environment and Climate Change, Natural Resources, Energy, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agriculture, Labour, Skills, and Immigration, Office of Mental Health and Addictions, Military Relations, Trade, African Nova Scotian Affairs, Gaelic Affairs, Acadian Affairs and Francophonie, Status of Women, and the Office of Equity and Anti-Racism.

“I’m proud to take on the role of House Leader and to work alongside Derek to fight for a better future for Nova Scotians,” said Rankin. “Together, we’ll focus on ensuring Nova Scotia has an economy that works for everyone and addresses the pressing challenges that families and communities are facing every day.”

Both Mombourquette and Rankin look forward to serving on all legislative committees, providing oversight in key areas that impact Nova Scotians and ensuring the Houston government is held accountable.
