The Nova Scotia Liberal Party (“the Party”) is committed to respecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we handle personal information to ensure its confidentiality, security, and accuracy.

How do we obtain Personal Information and what do we obtain?

- Some information is provided directly to the party by Elections Nova Scotia. For example, we (and all Registered Parties) receive a List of Electors, which includes names and addresses of eligible voters.
- We also collect information from publicly available sources and through voter outreach activities such as door-to-door canvassing, phone calls, and text messages.
- Additional information may be provided voluntarily by you, including:
- When you visit our website to become involved as a member, volunteer, or donor.
- When you subscribe to our communications (e.g., email updates, newsletters, or text alerts).
- When you register for events or conventions.
- When you complete registration or donation forms (online or on paper).
- When you sign petitions or complete other forms on our website.
- When a volunteer or friend refers you to us.
The information we collect may include:
- Contact and identification details (name, address, phone number, email, social media).
- Donation details (date and amount).
- Financial information for processing donations (e.g., payment method, billing info).
- Information about your voting preferences or issues you’ve discussed with us.
How do we use and share personal infromation?
We use your personal information to communicate with you about the Nova Scotia Liberal Party’s activities, provide updates, and process contributions. If you’ve donated before, we may contact you again to seek your support.
We will not use your personal information for any other purpose without your consent, unless permitted or required by law. For example, under the Elections Act, we may be required to report donor names, addresses, and contribution amounts to Elections Nova Scotia.
Personal information may be shared internally within the Party, including with local electoral district associations and candidates. We may also engage third-party service providers to assist with tasks such as donation processing, communications, data hosting, mailing, analytics, and website support. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your privacy.
We do not sell personal information under any circumstances.
How do we protect personal information?
We take the security of your personal information seriously.
We use physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to prevent unauthorized access, sharing, loss, or theft. Our security practices evolve to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of our systems.
Examples include:
- SSL encryption for sensitive online data (e.g., passwords, credit card info).
- Secure server environments.
- Employee training on privacy policies and data protection.
- Restricted access to our database via individual logins.
Employees are only permitted to use personal data for Party-related communications and are prohibited from copying or sharing data.
How can I update my information or unsubscribe?
You can update or correct your information by emailing [email protected] or writing to us at the address provided on our website.
To unsubscribe from email communications, click “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of any message.
What about Anti-Spam legislation?
Most messages sent by the Nova Scotia Liberal Party are exempt from Canada’s anti-spam legislation, as they are political in nature or solicit donations (which are exempt). If we send messages subject to the law, we will ensure compliance, including obtaining consent and providing an unsubscribe mechanism. As a best practice, we include unsubscribe options in all electronic messages
Do we log IP addresses?
We and/or our service providers may log IP addresses and device-related information (e.g., browser type, language, time zone) for system administration, content optimization, and troubleshooting. We may also use this data to improve our website and online engagement.
